I try to get just about everything used but sometimes, you have to buy new.

We were lucky to host Christmas at our home this year. A few immediate family members came to stay with us for several days to celebrate. The true challenge was Christmas Eve, though, in which we would be hosting fifteen.
Chuck, the hubs, has mentioned how ratty our cloth napkins are for a few years now. I mostly ignored him (they were still usable!!) but finally, knowing that we would be having everyone over the holidays, I could see our current cotton cloth napkins for what they really are: usable but rather shabby.
The truth is, a few of our napkins were almost ten years old and all of them were at least five years old. Chuck was right. We needed nicer things to dazzle everyone with. I set to work to build what began to feel like my dowry.
I knew I wanted organic linen napkins. I love the feel of linen and how it crinkles. I find them to be the most elegant and they are more sustainable than cotton. Linen is 100% biodegradable and requires far less water and pesticides to grow than cotton. Linen comes from flax, and every part of the plant is commonly used so nothing goes to waste. It is naturally moth resistant and it absorbs moisture without harboring bacteria. Read more about it here.
I immediately searched Etsy for the best finds. Etsy is always my go-to for new products for a few reasons. If I'm going to buy something new, I want to support small businesses. I can message the business owner on Etsy and ask them directly to package and mail my purchase without any plastic (they usually comply). Lastly, Etsy offsets the carbon emissions created with every purchase- something to feel good about. Read more about Etsy's social and environmental impact here.

After much research, I fell in love with Meetra Linen and Baltic Bloom. Both shops offer organic linens, I found their prices competitive, and I personally liked the styles they offered best. I went a little nuts and bought linen napkins for Christmas, yes, but also styles I knew would be good for when we host in the Summertime.
Both shops sent their napkins wrapped in paper tied with twine with absolutely no plastic! They shipped quickly and the customer service was perfect. All in all, I am extremely happy with our investment in these new, beautiful napkins.
