This summer is starting out scalding hot here on the West Coast. This heat is no joke.
As we brace ourselves for more extreme temperatures, I find myself turning more and more to my favorite summer secret weapon: Spa Water.
Spa Water is the perfect beverage for summer. It's easy to make, flexible, easily zero waste and organic, and affordable- especially for someone like me who can down bubbly water like there is no tomorrow. I love how there is no single-use plastic involved whatsoever.
The premise is simple- chop up or leave whole herbs, spices or fruit, put them in a pitcher, add water, and refrigerate for a few hours so the essences can steep and mingle. Then, enjoy!

My favorite flavors are:
-Strawberry & Mint
-Basil & Peach
-Cucumber, Mint & Lemon (or any combination thereof: Mint/Cucumber, Mint/Lemon or Lemon/Cucumber)
-Any Citrus
-Cinnamon (place a whole cinnamon stick in the pitcher- I learned this one from my favorite Brazilian restaurant in Downtown LA!)
But really, get creative. These are only the ones I've discovered so far but the possibilities are limitless.

I refill the pitcher with water a few times after emptying to get the most out of my ingredients and let them steep again. After a few rounds of doing this, I then compost the leftovers.
As an added bonus, the water is so delightful and delicious that I find myself naturally drinking more of it.
It's a very easy thing to make that feels like a very fancy and special treat for oneself.
Please remember to stay hydrated during these summer months. Happy Summering!
